The Clean Coast Index (CCI) allows beaches to be classified into 5 categories based on the density of waste present in the monitored beach stretches: very clean beach; clean; fairly clean; dirty beach; very dirty. The index reflects the perception that users have of the cleanliness of the beaches and therefore represents a tool for understanding the state of Italian beaches in terms of waste density.
