The indicator provides a picture of the current state of composition and richness of the Italian fauna, as it describes the degree of threat to animal biodiversity on the national territory, with particular reference to vertebrate species and 5 groups of invertebrates, for which the distributions in the different extinction risk categories are shown according to the IUCN criteria.
