The Italian edition of the "Statistical Report about Payment Card Fraud" is now online. The report has been prepared by the Central Payment Means Fraud-Prevention Office (UCAMP), which is part of the Directorate V, Financial Crimes Prevention of the Department of the Treasury.
The edition containing the 2014 data, which is in a completely new format with respect to past years, reports that payment card fraud is under control, and at a level comparable to that in other European countries.
The average fraud value has decreased, while fraud through the Internet has increased partly due to a greater number of online transactions for the purchase of goods and services. Instead, ATMs have proven more secure, with a lower incidence of tampering than in the past.
